Using RT Images in Professional-Level Drawing Programs

(including CorelDRAW!, Photoshop & CAD/CAM)

We assume that if you have and/or use any of these programs, you are an advanced user and are familiar with using graphics and the capabilities of your application.

Using RT EPS Images in CorelDRAW! Windows

*USE THE ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR IMPORT FILTER! (Go to FILE>IMPORT.

** Using ANY other EPS Import filter will result in non-editable images! **

When an EPS image is imported, our intelligent groupings are retained, and therefore features such as Ungrouping are available. Once imported (with the proper Adobe Illustrator filter) the EPS image is converted into a (non-Postscript) CorelDRAW! file (.CDR). Windows Metafile (.wmf) images do not retain this intelligent grouping, therefore, each object must be selected individually.

The CDR file can be printed with good results on your non-Postscript printer, or can be edited, then exported (FILE>EXPORT) to another format (ex.-WMF for use in other programs).

CorelDRAW! allows users to fully manipulate WMF and EPS graphics.

CorelDRAW3!
From the Transform menu you can move, rotate & scale and stretch & move images.

CorelDRAW4!
From the Effects menu you can rotate & skew, and stretch & mirror.

CorelDRAW5!
By using the tools in the Transformation Roll-Up (under the Effects menu choose Transform Roll-Up) you can move, rotate, scale by %, scale by inches and skew the image.

Recoloring Objects
WMF and EPS images may be colored in CorelDRAW.

Files may be colored by selecting a piece of the image and using the color palette. EPS images should first be ungrouped one level or more.

Do all your editing on EPS files. Exporting an EPS image to the WMF format (File/Export) will allow the files to be brought into other applications that do not accept the EPS format. When exporting to WMF:

Place a check (x) at the Include placeable header in the metafile option and click OK.
In CorelDRAW4! thru CorelDRAW6! use either Export Text As option.

Using RT Images in Photoshop

Photoshop does not have an import filter for the WMF file format, so if you plan to import (rasterize) images in Photoshop, begin with the EPS format.

Limited Editions of Photoshop will rasterize images ONLY at 72dpi, so if you need higher resolution, you must have the Full version.

Using RT Images with CAD/CAM

Users with CAD programs (such as AutoCAD) or computerized machinery(CAM), such as vinyl or plasma cutters, CNC routers, engravers, embroidery machines and the like, should be sufficiently learned to know what file formats their software/hardware can use, and the specific methods for incorporating and using stock images with their particular setup. RT is not able to provide assistance in this area.

Your particular software/hardware setup may or may not be able to directly use RT images in one of the formats supplied. In fact, it is likely that RT images will need to be both significantly modified, and exported in a different file format (such as DXF or HPGL) prior to usage on computerized machinery. The CorelDRAW! program has a substantial number of export filters (as well as the ability to edit RT images) which you might try for this purpose.
