Using RT Computer Graphic's Clip Art CD-ROMs with

Microsoft Works 3 for Windows

LIf the RT clip art files are stored on a different drive, or in a different folder than we specify here, modify these instructions as necessary.

Importing a WMF file

1. Create a new Word Processor document.

At the START UP dialog box:

Click on New & Recent Documents.

Then Word Processor in the Create a new box.

NOTE: Images can not be brought into Spreadsheets, Databases or Communications documents.

2. Under the Insert menu select Drawing.

Do not use Clip Art under the Insert menu - the image be will converted to a low resolution bitmap and will not print well.

3. The Microsoft Draw layer comes up.

4. From the File menu select Import Picture.

5. At the Import Picture dialog, switch drives to your CD ROM.

6. Highlight the file you want to retrieve (i.e., 01toad.wmf). Click OK.

If the file is not showing check:

7. Once the image is in the Microsoft Draw layer you can edit the image.

8. When you are ready to bring the image into your word processor document, select Exit and Return to Word under the File menu. (In Windows 95 you must first select Update from the File menu then, Exit and Return to Word).

9. When asked to Update Word?, click Yes.

Editing the Image

Scaling Objects
Select the object you want to scale. Handles will appear around the image.

Click on one of the handles and drag to scale the box. By clicking on a corner handle you scale the image proportionally. If you click on a middle handle and drag the mouse you will distort the image ... changing the original proportions.

Double click on the image to return to the Microsoft Draw layer for additional editing.

Recoloring Objects
Objects can be recolored when in the Microsoft Draw layer by selecting an object and using the Fill Color Palette. Note, individual pieces in a WMF file may be colored.

Rotating Objects
Select the image you want to rotate.

From the Draw menu choose Rotate/Flip. Then choose to Rotate Left or Rotate Right.

Flipping Objects
Select the image you want to flip.

From the Draw menu choose Rotate/Flip. Then choose to Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical.

When you are ready to bring the image into your word processor document, select Exit and Return to Word under the File menu. (In Windows 95 you must first select Update from the File menu then, Exit and Return to Word).

When asked to Update Word?, click Yes.

Using Borders within a Document

1. Insert border image files as you would any other RT Clip Art file.

2. Scale the border to the desired size. See Scaling Objects above.

3. Double click the image to bring it into the Microsoft Draw layer.

4. Use the text tool from the tool palette to type your text inside the border.

5. When you are ready to bring the image into your word processor document, select Exit and Return to Word under the File menu. (In Windows 95 you must first select Update from the File menu then, Exit and Return to Word).

When asked to Update Word?, click Yes.
