How to Turn Off Virus Protection Software

So Fonts Can Be Installed


Symantec/Norton AntiVirus:

To temporarily disable Auto-Protect in Norton AntiVirus 4.0 and 5.0:

1. Start the Norton AntiVirus Main Program from the Norton AntiVirus Program Group.
2. Click the Options button.
3. Select the Auto-Protect tab.
4. Uncheck the "Load Auto-Protect at startup" option.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Yes when prompted whether to unload Auto-Protect now.
7. Exit the program.

To temporarily disable Auto-Protect in Norton AntiVirus NAV 2000:

1. Start the Norton AntiVirus Main Program from the Norton AntiVirus Program
Group.
2. Click the Options button.
3. Select Auto-Protect in the navigation tree to the left.
4. Uncheck the "Load Auto-Protect at startup" option.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Yes when prompted whether to unload Auto-Protect now.
7. Exit the program.

To temporarily disable the Auto-Protect, right-click the Auto-Protect icon on the Task Bar,
then choose Disable. This will draw a red circle and slash on the icon to indicate that
Auto-Protect is disabled.

To re-enable Auto-Protect right-click the Auto-Protect icon, then choose Enable. This will
remove the red circle and slash from the icon, indicating that Auto-Protect is enabled.



McAfee VirusScan:

To temporarily disable VirusScan:

1. In the lower right corner of the screen (by the time display) right-click on the VShield icon. The VShield icon looks like a blue shield with a red V inside.

2. A pop-up menu will appear. Highlight Enable.

3. You will then see a sub-menu with one or more check marks next to the options. Make a note of which items have checks next to them, then remove the check mark from each item by clicking on each one.

NOTE: When you left-click on an item to remove the check mark the menu will disappear. You will then need to repeat steps 1 - 3 until all check marks have been removed.

4. Once all check marks are removed a red circle with a line through it will appear over the VShield icon showing VirusScan is disabled.

5. Once you are ready to re-enable VirusScan right-click on the VShield icon, highlight Enable, then left-click on the items to add the check marks. Make sure you add all the check marks for each item that was disabled.
